Velma A. Clunan

Velma A. Clunan age 92 of Cottondale, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Jackson Hospital. Born March 13, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Adams and Addie Frazier Adams. In 1951, Velma became a resident of Jackson County, moving here from Greenville, Mississippi.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cottondale. For forty plus years, Velma worked as a personal secretary to three different county agents in the Ag Extension Office. An avid reader, she could always be found with a book in her hand.  One of Velma’s greatest joys was cooking Sunday lunch after church for her entire family that she loved dearly. She was a gracious person who always put the needs of others before her own. Her compassionate heart and her big smile will be missed by everyone she knew.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and two sisters; and her loving husband Sam D. Clunan. She is survived by her sons; Sam Clunan (Sherri) of Tallahassee and Jerry Clunan (Evelyn) of Cottondale; one sister, Ann Reynolds of Brandon, Mississippi; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Ms. Clunan will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2017 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Brock and Pastor James Gray Braxton officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Serving as pall bearers for Ms. Clunan will be her grandsons; D.J., Cade, Jeremy, Joe, Chase, and great-grandson Nolan.
