John Wesley “J.W.” Dilmore age 78 of Alford passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. He was born on April 19, 1939 in Jackson County to the late William Carl Dilmore and Willie Edna Taylor Dilmore. J.W. was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked for the United States Postal Service for forty-two years before retiring as a Postmaster. J.W. was a past Deacon and Sunday School teacher of Cypress Creek Community Church for over forty-five years. He was also the Commander of the American Legion Post 302 of Alford, a founder of the First Capital Bank in Marianna, and also the longtime operator of the Dilmore Grist Mill.
J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Edward Dilmore and Lelend Dilmore, and one sister, Joan Gardener. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Annie Sue Dilmore; children, Emory Jay Dilmore (Debbie) of Tallahassee, and Zanda Sue Warren (Jim) of Alford; sister Glenda Duncan (Joe) of Cottondale. J.W. is also survived by five grandchildren, Zoee, Audrey, Brad, Nick, and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Herzing and Brayden Herzing.
Funeral services for J.W. will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in the Cypress Creek Community Church at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Ward and Brother Joey Woodruff officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
