Brad Eric Clenney

Brad Eric Clenney age 39 of Marianna passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Dothan, Alabama. He was born on September 21, 1976 to Bonnie Hatcher Clenney and Foy Lynn Clenney, Sr. Brad enjoyed fishing and playing music.

Brad was preceded in death by grandparents, Jesse and Lucille Hatcher, Boykin and Alice McCroan, and his Aunt Juanita Hatcher.

He is survived by his mother Bonnie Hatcher Clenney and his father Foy Lynn Clenney, Sr., brothers Foy Lynn Clenney, Jr., Kevin Clenney, and Josh Clenney, children Bralyn Clenney, and Molly Cade, aunts Ruth Tillman, and Linda Hatcher, uncles Charles Clenney, Roger Clenney, Johnny Hatcher, Angus Hatcher, and Jake Hatcher. He is also survived by a special friend James Parris.

A memorial service will held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 24, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Marshall Barrentine officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Infant Lexi Candelaria of Marianna, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Jackson Hospital.

Lexi is survived by her mother Lauren Vila, her father Anthony Candelaria, grandparents Henry & Lisa Vila, Tomila & Daryl Benefield, and Mirian Candelaria, sister Jasmine Candelaria, and a host of aunts and uncles.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Ossie Mae Heaton

On the afternoon of July 1st 2016, heaven got a little bit sweeter when Ossie Mae Heaton was embraced by the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ossie Mae attained six years of formal education and became a preacher/farmers wife and the mother of five children of which followed Floyd C. Heaton all over Southeast Alabama, parts of Southwest Georgia, and places throughout the Panhandle of Florida, planting churches.  She also held jobs in Jackson County Hospital, Lisenby Hospital, Bay Memorial (Adams) Hospital and retired as a nurse in the new born nursery at Tyndall Air Force (Tyndall Field) Hospital.  Most of her life she lived between Marianna, Grand Ridge, and Panama City, Florida.  Her greatest love was being a Christian and a member of Caverns Road Church of Christ in Marianna Florida and Jenks Avenue Church of Christ in Panama City Florida.  She cherished her family and friends and spent many hours quilting and singing acappella with her sisters and loved to make pillows  for the new residents at her nursing home.  She had a great since of humor and loved to tell you a joke to see the smile on your face.

Ossie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. E.L. Kirkland; her husband Floyd C. Heaton, Sr.; her daughter Doris Jean Carr; her sons, Fred M. Heaton and F. C Heaton, Jr; brother E.L. Kirkland, Jr. and sisters; Robbie Kirkland, Wilma Palmer, Bessie Palmer (Thomasson), Faye Brooks, Katreen Garrett, and Ollie Carlton; granddaughter Judy Peel;  great grandchild Chaney Peel; and grandsons Randy Carr and Dennis Heaton.

Ossie Mae is survived by her sons; Clarence Heaton and wife, Mickey, of Knoxville, TN and Ralph Heaton and wife, Carolyn of Panama City, FL and Augusta, GA, 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 33 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 9 A.M. and Funeral Services will be held at 10 A.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Jenks Avenue Church of Christ.  With Charles Tharpe and Hugh Tucker officiating.  Interment will be in Cypress Community Cemetery, in Cypress, Florida at 2 P.M. with Tom Bowling officiating.

A special thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice as well as the many caring hands at the Panama City Nursing Center.   In Lieu of flowers it was her request that donations be made to the youth department of Jenks Avenue Church of Christ, 3332 Jenks Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405.

Shirley “Ruth” Tillman

Shirley “Ruth” Tillman age 78 of Marianna passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 at Jackson Hospital. Ruth graduated in 1955 from Frink High School. She was a graduate of Chipola College with her AA degree. Ruth’s love of styling hair while growing up led her to return to school to study cosmetology in Jacksonville. Following completion of the program, she opened Ruth’s Beauty Shop in Marianna. Ruth’s second love of home economics, cooking, sewing, and preparing a home for a family led her to a position with the University of Florida’s Home Extension office. She worked with mothers teaching them how to prepare meals, balance a household budget, stitch up a tear in clothes, and balance all of those with time to spend with their young children. Ruth ended her career as the Literacy Coordinator for Jackson County Adult Education program. Ruth’s love of reading was witnessed by her children, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She took that love of reading and passed it on to her students at Adult Ed. Ruth retired from Jackson County School Board in 1997 and became a full time homemaker.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Jessie James and Lucille Freeman Hatcher.

She is survived by her loving husband Delmer Tillman, 2 sons Mike Tillman, and Stacy Tillman (Tara), grandchildren Jessica Holloway, Kyle Tillman, and Peyton Tillman, 2 sisters Bonnie Clenney, and Linda Hatcher, 3 brothers Angus Hatcher, Johnny Hatcher (Anita), and Jake Hatcher (Loretta).

 Funeral Services for Ruth will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Marianna with Father David Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Parrish Hall, located behind the Education Building.

Edith Irene Pledger Minchew

Edith Irene Pledger Minchew

Irene Minchew, 94, passed away at home in Marianna, Florida on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 following a short illness.

Irene was a committed Christian who lived her strong faith in God through serving, praying and sharing Jesus Christ.  She was the oldest living member of The First Baptist Church of Marianna where she was an active member of the JOY Sunday School Class.  Her life focus was her faith and family.  

Irene was a native of Jackson County, born on August 7, 1921, to the late Ed and Ina Mae Chance Pledger.  She graduated from Marianna High School and lived her entire life in Marianna.  

Although, for the most part, Irene was a homemaker, she did work at Jenkins Auto, Peacock Motor Company, Chipola Junior College library, and assisted her husband with his businesses.  She was active as a Sunday School teacher, in the school P.T.A. and community scouting activities.  She was a past member of both the Marianna Woman's Club and the Jackson Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for a number of years. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, and playing bridge.  She was a strong, proud Southern woman who lived independently for twenty-four years after her husband's death.

 

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband Jack Powell Minchew, brother Robert Pledger, sister-in-law Maude Pledger and brother-in-law Mack Webb.

 

Surviving Irene are her beloved family, daughter Jackie-Fay Minchew (Jerry) Kelly; son Ed Powell Minchew; and "light of her life" granddaughter Jennifer Irene Kelly (Tom) Hatcher.  She leaves behind her sister Joyce Pledger Webb and family.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 at The First Baptist Church of Marianna with Dr. Mark Long officiating, assisted by Rev. William Harvey, and Rev. Eric Durham.  Her family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.  A private interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.

Delia “Dee” Ophelia Cochrane

Delia “Dee” Ophelia Cochrane

Delia Ophelia “Dee” Cochrane (1955-2016) of Altha, Fl went to sleep in Jehovah’s memory at 11:28 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Florida.

Funeral services for Dee will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home  in Marianna, Florida with Tim Owens officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 prior to service time.

Dee was affectionately known as “Ms. Dee”. She owned and operated Dee’s Earth Angels from 1997 – 2010 in Sneads and Grand Ridge, Florida. Dee was one of the Jehovah’s Witness’ and was baptized on April 5, 1969. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Blountstown, Florida. Dee was born to Theresa “Tiny” and Buford “Butch” Jarmon on December 21, 1955 in Marianna, Fl at Jackson Hospital.

Dee was preceded in death by her mother Theresa Jarmon, her father Buford “Butch” Jarmon, and her brother Walt Butch Jarmon. 

Survivors include her daughter April Marie Melvin (Phillip) of Altha, two granddaughters Taylor Lee Ann Melvin and Kara Maddisen Melvin. Her brother Walt Ben Jarmon (Jessie) of Slocomb, sisters include Myran Julie Jarmon of Dothan, Mary Ruth McNemar (Roger) of Dothan, and Rebekah Moore (Tom) of Midland City. Along with many nieces and nephews that she loved very much; as well as many special friends to include Gladys Melton of Altha, Ann Conyers of Blountstown, and Dorothy Davis of Blountstown, who were by her side daily in many ways.

Peter Carmichael

Peter Carmichael, longtime resident of Marianna, passed away at home on August 10, 2016 after a struggle with cancer. Pete moved to Marianna in 1985, coming from Rochester, NY where he was born on December 4, 1934.

He bought the Old Stone Hotel on McPherson Street shortly after coming to town. He did a complete renovation of the late 1800’s building, saving it from destruction. He lived in the hotel and began a business there that would last a lifetime.

Pete was the owner of PC Oak & Brass, a unique antique store. The business has been up and running for 25 years. Pete’s greatest pleasure was searching out any unusual or interesting items for the store.

He is survived by two sons of Rochester, NY, a daughter of Pittsford, NY, a daughter of Antioch, CA, a sister and brother of Rochester and Victor, NY, and a sister of Yulee FL, and five grandchildren. Pete is also survived by his partner Linda Percy, and beloved Labrador Lady Dog Carmichael.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

Ruby Elizabeth (Eliz) Mills Tipton

Ruby Elizabeth (Eliz) Mills Tipton was born at Jackson Hospital on June 10, 1962 and went to be with our Lord in Heaven on August 8, 2016.  Her much loved dog, Lola, also passed away on August 8.

Eliz was crowned Miss Cottondale in 1979 and graduated from Cottondale High School in 1980.  She earned a degree in nursing from Wallace Community College and graduated as valedictorian (1997).

Eliz was preceded in death by her beloved father, Dewey Roland Mills, Jr; maternal grandparents Henry and Mille Broom Yon; paternal grandparents Dewey and Ruby Sullivan; and her dog of 19-years Toby.

She is survived by two children: son Todd Tipton (Michelle) and daughter Raven Tipton; 4 grandchildren: Makayla O’Rourke; Wesley, Sophie & Riley Tipton; by mother Peggy Yon Mills; brothers Mark Roland Mills (Moon) and Dewey Clay Mills (Jennifer); niece Avery Mills; and nephews Gage Mills and Dewey Clay Mills Jr.  

Eliz was a member of Alford Baptist Church and believed in prayer for herself as well as others.  She was thankful to God for her good days, living life day by day.  She was so proud and had a deep love for her family.

The Town of Alford was blessed to have Eliz coordinate and supervise the Annual Christmas Parade.  She also strived each year to help the Alford Community Organization’s Old Fashion Country Dinner & Auction to be a huge success.

Funeral Services for Eliz will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Salem Free Will Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Andrew F. Earle

Andrew F. Earle age 69 of Bascom, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born on January 11, 1947 in Coral Gables, Fl. Andrew was of the Methodist Faith, a machinist by trade, and was formerly a resident of Miami.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dolores Earle; one son, Frederic Earle; two sisters and a host of other family and friends.

Robert Horashal Howell age 84, formerly of Sneads passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his residence in Saraland, AL surrounded by his family. 

He was a lifelong resident of Sneads, FL and retired from Apalachee Correctional Institution. 

He is survived by one brother Ray Howell of Sneads, FL, five sons Chad Howell (Cindy) of Taylor, AL, Brian Howell (Stacy) of Marianna, FL, Rob Howell of Marianna, FL, William Riley of Saraland, AL, and John Mills of Saraland, three daughters Tammy Hubbart (Gene) of Saraland, AL, Vanessa Powell (Ronnie) of Bascom, and Vicki Baxter (Wayne) of Sneads, FL.

Services for Robert will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Dykes Cemetery in Sneads.

Dannie M. Goodwin age 85 of Sneads passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Southeast Medical Center.  She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a member of Cypress Community Holiness Church.  Mrs. Goodwin loved her family, her church and her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Blackmon Mears, her brother Zedeker Mears and sister Gladys Neel.

Survivors include her daughter Rebecca Chambliss of Marianna; four grandchildren Samantha Chambliss, Alyssa Chambliss, Kimber Chambliss and Kaylee Bush, four Great Grandchildren, special nieces Margaret Melvin, and Suzie Walters, special cousin Pearl Spooner and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Goodwin will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11 A.M. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Smitherman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cypress Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.

Jackie Lee Townsell, Sr. age 69 of Marianna formerly of West Palm Beach passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. 

He is survived by his mother Anna Ruth Bueter of West Palm Beach, FL, sons Jackie Lee Townsell (Nichole) of Marianna, Jeffery Townsell (Tonya) of Washington, and Jason Townsell (Jennifer) of Marianna, daughters Amy Townsell of Marianna, and Brandy Townsell of Pulaski, TN, sisters Cherry Mellette and Jean Guffey both of West Palm Beach, FL, 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dr Robert C. Henning

Dr Robert C. Henning

Dr Robert C. Henning, 92, died on August 23,2016 at his home in Marianna following a struggle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 36 years, Barbara Henning; his sons, Robert, Clifford and Jason Henning, his daughter Sandy Lentz, his brother Charles Henning, seven grandchildren; and many close friends.

He was born in Dothan Al. and raised in Blakely GA, as the son of Robert and Ruth (Carter) Henning. After graduating from High School in Cairo, GA in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served 4 years during WWII in the South Pacific.  After serving in the Marine Corp he attended Emory Jr. College, then the University of Georgia graduating in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.  In addition, he graduated from Florida State University in 1955 with a Master Degree in Art and University of Georgia graduating with a Doctor of Education Degree in 1971.

In 1948 he began his teaching career, starting at St Andrew Elementary School.  He was promoted to School Principle at Fort Braden Elementary School then he was again promoted to the Art Supervisor for Leon County.  In 1957 he was appointed as the first director of the Tallahassee Jr. Museum.  After getting his Master degree he accepted an appointment with the Agency of International Development with U.S. State Department serving four years (1965-1969) training teacher to teach in Uganda, Africa. He ended his teaching career as a Principal of the Kent Island Elementary School in Maryland, where he retired in 1982. 

He met his wife, Barbara J. Henning, in Kent Island and they were married in 1980. After retiring from Kent Island they moved to Marianna FL and purchased an 80-acre farm.  

He was a longtime member of Elks, the VFW and the National Education Association. He is a member of the Rivertown Community Church.                      

A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. In the  Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Ezra P. Caynor officiating.  A time of remembrance will  be held following the service.  Graveside services with military honors will be held at a later date in the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

Lula Ann Chambliss

Lula Ann Chambliss age 69 passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Southeast Medical Center.  She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a member of Collins Chapel Baptist Church. Lula loved her grandchildren, spending time camping and celebrating Christmas with all the decorations and family time.

She was preceded in death by her parents John, Sr. and Vera Turner and her sister Bobby Jo Conroy.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years Charles H. Chambliss of Greenwood, sons, Keith Chambliss and wife, Buffie of Greenwood, Kevin Chambliss  of Tallahassee, Charlie Chambliss and special friend Philip Adams of Andalusia, AL, and Kyle Chambliss and wife, Kristy J. of Greenwood; daughter, Kristy Chambliss and   Carlton Burns of Cottondale; brothers John Turner, Jr., Troy Turner and Stafford Turner: sisters, Sarah Chambliss, Vera Mae Walsingham and Patricia Breland, grandchildren, Dillon Ethan, Eric, Kristen, Austin, Nathan Tyler, Deavon, Dakota, Montanna, Kristina.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Collins Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ken Beard officiating.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.  Interment will follow in Bascom Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ann L. Chatwood

Ann L. Chatwood age 75 of Marianna passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Bay Medical Hospital. Ann was born in Calhoun County on August 29, 1941 to the late George and Ruth Newsome. Ann has resided in Marianna since 1980 coming from Clarskville where she was a member of the Carr Chapel. She worked several years as a manager over the convenient store with the Graceville Oil Company. Ann loved to read, work in her yard, spending time with her family and spoiling all of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s Broward Chatwood and George “Bob” Boyd, Jr., brothers Clyde Newsome and George Newsome, Jr.

Ann is survived by her daughters Rita Girardot (Terry), Tammy Carr (James), Kim Boyd, and Christanna Baker (Tyrell), special niece Cindy Welch, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Services for Ann will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Gene “Blue” Mullins and Howard Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Zolena K. Kent age 90 of Cottondale passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in the Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Jackson County, born on January 13, 1926 to the late Alton E. Kent Sr. and Annie Kent.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kynesville. Zolena enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and fishing. Mrs. Kent loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family.

Zolena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Collis P. Kent; nine siblings and son-in-law, Dan Pridgeon. She is survived by her children Alton Kent (Melba), Joyce Ann Pridgeon, Ronnie Kent (Vickie), Charlotte Roark (Steve); grandchildren, Al Kent (Teresa), Kathy Sloan, Gina McAllister (Bobby), Brad Kent (Dana), Brian Kent (April), David Roark (Colleen), Patrick Roark, Peggy Brown (Steve), Rita Hall (Paul), Eddie Pridgeon, Christie Arrington (Ricky), Michelle Spears (Chris), and Jamie Blankenship (Luke); brothers, Alton E. Kent Jr. and Charles Kent; twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zolena will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Sharkey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on the Friday, September 2, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Marjorie Faye Harris-Grindle

Marjorie Faye Harris-Grindle age 73 of Tallahassee passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Marjorie was a native of Jackson County recently residing in West Minster Oaks Retirement Community. She was born in Marianna on July 7, 1943 to the late William Harvey and Ella McCroan and was a member of the Cypress Baptist Church where she held the position of church treasure until 2014. Marjorie was a devoted mother and grandmother and considered her granddaughter Victoria the “love of her life”. She was a kind, gentle person and a loyal friend to many through the years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Charles A. Harris, and a brother William “Barney” McCroan. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 2 years Robert “Bob” Grindle formerly of Marianna, son Kevin Harris and wife Dominique Faison- Harris, granddaughter Victoria Harris, brother Hershel McCroan of Cumming, GA, and several loving nephews and 1 niece. 

Service for Marjorie will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Cypress Baptist Church with Brother David Timms officiating. Interment will follow in the Cypress Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Patricia Ann Martin 64 of Marianna, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in Jackson Hospital. Patricia was a native of Marianna born on September 10, 1951 to the late Clyde and Marian Medlock.  She was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Marianna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William E. Martin, her brothers John Allen & Andy Medlock.

Patricia is survived by her son Bill Martin, daughter Shelly Martin, brothers Bill Medlock, Jimmy Medlock, and Donnie Medlock, sister Linda Whitfield, and a host of numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Patricia will be held at 2:00 P.M. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Mark Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
